This book is the bomb if you want to start to learn Haitian Creole. It is laid out in a very easy to understand format and was the first book I bought on my very first trip to Haiti. By the time I adopted my daughter I was functionally conversant in Creole and able to help her transition painlessly to English because I could fully understand her. Of course my Creole skills came from repeated trips to Haiti and hours of study from other texts and magazines as well that were written in Creole, but

Of course my Creole skills came from repeated trips to Haiti and hours of study from other texts and magazines as well that were written in Creole, but this book is what lit the fire and made me realize that I could at least start to master the language. I can't recommend it enough for adoptive parents or those who are heading to Haiti on missions trips.

Not too many books out there that I have seen, so one can't be too critical. There is not much volume in the way of grammar here, but what is there is well explained and clearly laid out. And the glossary is rich, for such a short book. I enjoyed seeing French get the treatment that well-meaning Americans often suggest for English. In any case, I look forward to spending a little more time over these lessons in the coming months as I prepare for a trip to the (half-)island nation.

I went several time to Haiti and the book provided me with a good foundation and I was told, "good pronunciation." It was recommended to me by some long-term missionaries in Haiti. I highly recommend it as any easy way to learn the language. I purchased this book with CDs several years ago prior to my first medical mission trip to Haiti.
